This is a poem I wrote as a sort of tribute to my family. Hope you like it!
Here's To Everything With You
I’ve lived a life of one mess after another
And I always thought, at least we’re together
We may get nothing done day by day
But I would never trade this away
So, here’s to lazy nights and fireflies
Practical jokes by candlelight
All those times we danced
While dirty dishes waited for us inside
Here’s to fireworks and flooding creeks
Here’s to the life God’s given me
Here’s to all those times we loved and laughed and cried
Then fallen asleep beneath starlight
Here’s to when we didn’t know if we could make it through
Here’s to having the time of my life
Doing nothing, and everything, with you
Sometimes it seems as if nothing gets done
This life I’m leading like a hopeless cause
But though it feels painful in the whole run
Each and every one of these battles Christ’s won.
So, here’s to getting nothing really done
But making a difference in the long run
To all those times we sang
While watching the sinking sun
Here’s to truck beds and starry skies
Here’s to the bacon God provides
Here’s to all those times we loved those that left
To all the hard goodbyes
Here’s to when we didn’t know if we could make it through
Here’s to having the time of my life
Doing nothing, and everything, with you

ReplyDeleteThis is so sweet, and I am guessing it means so much more to you.
ReplyDeleteThat is very touching and soothing. I often don't get much done but I try to have a good time doing it. Your writing reminds me of your great great grandmother Bamba's work.
