Blogging Hiatus

After giving this a lot of thought, I've decided to go on a blogging hiatus, until around the New Year. I'm sure you've noticed my posts dwindling lately... I'm afraid I've never been very good at blogging, and recently I haven't had the time to give it my fullest attention. So, until I do have the time to make that happen, I'm afraid I will have to say goodbye. You all have been wonderful readers, and I'm thankful for every one of you. I know when I start posting again in a few months, you'll be there to back me up. Thanks for all the support!

Fall Releases I'm Looking Forward To

I thought today I'd share the four new releases coming up I'm most looking foreword to. These next few months are going to be very exciting. :D

While Riordan's last batch of books, the spin-off series of Percy Jackson, were less than cool, this looks like it's going to be really awesome.

I have absolutely loved Colfer's books, especially his WARP series, and cannot wait to crack open the pages of book 3. Especially since it looks like he's bringing back one of the best villains ever.

The Speed of Darkness: Chronoptika #4

I haven't actually read the 2nd and 3rd book in this series (because my library doesn't have them), so I haven't even read the description of this one. The first book turned out to be breathtaking, and so I, in planning to read the next two, found out that the fourth was due to be released early 2016.

Mission Hurricane: The 39 Clues: Doublecrossed

Last book of the 39 Clues. Possibly the very last that will ever come out. I have really enjoyed these books and will be very sad to see them end. But I suppose you can only stretch a series so far...

Hm... I'd have to say soccer or Frisbee or swimming. Don't make me narrow it down more than that. ;)

Haha, soccer and Frisbee again. I love sports in general.

- How many animals do you own?
Our family owns two dogs, a cow and soon some puppies (one of our dogs is pregnant :D .)

- How many siblings do you have?
Five. Two brothers and three sisters.

- What is your favorite color?
Oh dear. I guess I'm not very decisive today, because I'd have to say blue, green or black. And I really love burgundy/coffee hues. I hate to just choose one.

- What is your favorite kind of animal?
Panda bear. Always has been. :) I love large cats like panthers and lynx's, too, though. 

- Favorite season?
Autumn.

- Favorite books?
That's a very hard question to answer! I'd have to say The Ascendance Trilogy (It. Was. Amazing.), Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the Fablehaven books, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Swamp Rat, and Around the World in Eighty Days. 

- Favorite movies?
Another hard one! Let's see... The Return of the King, the Bourne movies, Pirates of the Caribbean, any Hitchcock film, The Proposal, and Tv shows like Psych, Merlin, Heroes and Monk.

Read, write, make music videos, create disasters, play pranks, and go on ATV rides. I also watch a lot of movies. :)

The Writing Lifestyle

I've found myself realizing more and more lately that I don't think like a normal person anymore.

Writing has started shaping my entire life. It's been heading that direction since I was as young as ten, but I guess I didn't know it until now. Everything I do in my day-to-day lifestyle revolves around my writing.

I'm not thinking ahead to college because all I picture myself doing in a few years is writing. How I get through doing schoolwork is thinking about how I can use this knowledge for my writing. Every morning I wake up, I wonder how much writing I'm going to get done. When my mom asks me what I'm going to do today, I have to stop and think of something besides writing I had been planning to do. It's actually a little scary to think about how unconsciously writing controls my life. I don't even really have the normal "teenage girl" thoughts of something like who I'm going to marry or what kind of house I want to live in when I get older. All I can think is, Oh, look, it's a new day. Guess I'm gonna write.

Is this unhealthy? It's either passion or a mental disorder. Probably both. Do you guys ever feel this way?

Everything around me is fuel for the writing fire. Literally almost every thought that crosses my mind about something usually turns into "how can I use this in a story?" Recently, I was playing soccer with some friends, and accidentally got a black eye from someone's elbow in the wrong place at the wrong time. And, seriously, I was kind of happy, because now I knew how to describe the pain of being hit extremely hard in the face. Great, right?

But something I have to remind myself every single day so I don't get sidetracked is to follow up the question of "How can I use this in my story?" with "And how will this glorify God?" 

I want that question to fuel me with as much passion as my writing. And it's hard. Because I've become so ingrained with the writing mindset, it's hard to fit anything else into my head with it. But it's a very necessary thought. It's an important thought. It is THE most important thought, actually. 

As I've realized how much my life revolves around my writing, I've realized how much more I need it to revolve around that question. How can I glorify God? Because that has to come before everything else. And more than anything it has to come before my writing.

I'm not sure where this post was heading. Hopefully my ramblings made at least a little sense.

How has writing shaped your life? Do you ever have to take a step back and reevaluate?

A Momentousness of Books

Something momentous has happened. Something amazing. Something so cool I just had to share it with you guys.

*drum roll please......* 

I own over 100 books!!!

Me, myself and I, personally own over 100 titles--obviously my favorites, plus a few random ones I happened to pick up on the way. :)

I never set a goal or anything like that for myself. I've tried to buy as many as I can, rather than get them from library, since I may end up wanting re-read or flip through them again. (And it's especially hard to do that with library books if the library you happen to go to is an hour and a half away. Heh.) Confession time, though... I haven't actually read all of them. Out of 100, I've maybe read 87. Which isn't bad, and I am working on it. :)

But anyways, I was just so excited I thought I'd write up a post about it. I'm completely out of shelf space, which is quite an awesome feeling... While I've got you, though, I apologize for my rather sudden hiatus there for a few months. It's been a really crazy time around here. A lot of traveling and a lot of bruises from a lot of soccer games. Also watermelon. A lot of watermelon. (But that's always a good thing. :D )

Do you guys have a book collection? How big has it gotten? Any suggestions for me? Which books are your favorites? Which do you wish you had bought instead of getting them from the library?

Thoughts in Caramel

     Having you ever felt so crammed full of things you need to do, of schedules and projects to work on, that your thoughts literally feel like they're racing a hundred-miles-per-hour at the same time it feels like they're stuck in glue, pinging in slow-motion, so sluggish you can barely even put two words together in your head?

     Huuuge run on sentence, I know. I'm sorry... 

     But, that's what tonight is like for me. And last night. And the night before. And every moment in between.

     My brain feels like it could explode at any second. Like all of my thoughts are stuck together with caramel. I have too many things I should be doing, too many things I need to be doing, but they can't all happen at once.

     This week has been a season of letting go for me. Between juggling school, friends, writing, video work, blogging, research, and a (sort of) job, there's just too much to handle with only two hands and one brain. I've had to prioritize. I've had to organize (weird, right? I didn't think I had it in me...). And I've had to let go of things I know are less important. Things that will get in the way of my real dreams and my real goals. Goals that I know I can accomplish and not just daydream about. 

     Maybe, one day, I can come back to them. Maybe, one day, they'll be my important goals. Maybe, one day, those dreams will come true. 

     I never thought I'd have to prioritize my dreams... It just sounds kind of wrong, doesn't it?

     But, some of these goals, some of them I've had to tell myself will never happen. That it really was just a dream, and there are better dreams for me to spend my time on. That's just part of growing, I suppose.

     I've never been a "deep" blogger. Though I spend a lot of time writing and am rather a sensitive soul, I usually stink at conveying my emotions and thoughts. I guess I deal better with describing the flashing of rapiers during a pirate duel that I do describing real thoughts and feelings.

     So, I don't know why I decided to post this today. I just felt like sharing. :)

First Hellos and Final Goals

Here is my first hello to all of you in 2015!

It's a new year, and like every new year it comes with changes and decisions. I've made some choices I hope you all will like for this blog. There are some things I wish I had done better with my life in 2014, and there are some things that I know I will fail at in 2015. But, thankfully, the beauty of failure is you learn from it.

Starting now, I've decided to do away with "Monday Musings" and "Writer's Wednesday" and "Photography Friday". The rigid schedule and cheesy alliterations just weren't working for me.

I would love for you all to give me suggestions for ways I could improve my blog and my posts! Please comment with any ideas you may have.

Last year, about this time, I told you all that my new year's resolution was to not use any emoticons on this blog.

As you probably can all see, I failed miserably. :P

I have nothing at all against emoticons. In fact, I think they are super cute and funny. But my reason for trying to not use them was because I wanted my writing to be such that I didn't need to use smiley-faces to maybe bring some serious subject I was talking about back into a happy mood, or a sad-face to convey disappointment, when I could very easily just take a few more minutes to be more thoughtful with my words and how they are put together. 

This year, I have no such restrictions. Hah, I'm probably going to use a hundred emoticons a sentence now that I have free range.  But I will also be trying just as hard, if not more, to be more thoughtful in my rhetoric.

Anyways, here's a sketchy outline for the way I'm hoping to do things on Scribblings this next year:

In terms of photography…

In case you were worried, I'm not giving up photography. Just because Photography Friday is defenestrated, doesn't mean my camera has been chucked out with it. There will definitely be photo shoots and more "selfie series" pictures. I love photography and am not planning on quitting any time soon.

Speaking of scribblings…

I have not yet made a plan for what I'm doing with This Name and Moment. What I had planned on being just a short, short book spliced into small chapters to give to you guys, has turned into an explosion of new plots and characters in my head. I would really love to take it to a new height, but at the same time I need to be focusing on several of my other writing goals. So, in other words, I've haven't got a concrete plan. If you're still interested in reading This Name and Moment please comment and tell me! I would really appreciate it. :-)

But, now that I'm not concentrating all of my fuel on This Name and Moment, I can be posting more poems and short stories and stuff. Which I'm super excited about. :D :D :D

Did somebody mention books??

Instead of doing an individual review for one or two books, I got the idea to just post a list of all of the  books I read that month, with short descriptions and my ratings. Also, if you guys can think of any books you would highly recommend, I would love to hear about them! One of my unofficial goals this year is to read a lot more, and for that, I need lots of suggestions! :-)

Well, there you have it. All my incredibly sloppy plans for this incredibly sloppy blog who does not deserve all of you amazing people. :-)

Hello, everyone!

Well, my "treasure hunting" month is officially over for this blog. I had a lot of fun doing the various posts. Even though I didn't have the time to do all the ones I wanted, I still had a great time sharing my NaNoWriMo aspirations with you all.

Thank you for all your support! Stay tuned this next month for Christmas photography shoots. :) I don't believe I'll be able to get together This Name and Moment's next segment until the new year. (Anyone else get a shiver when they say 'new year'? ;D)

Writers Wednesday // Action Kids Blog Tour Stop

For Today:

Olivia, the narrator in Action Kids' Club is pretty upset about moving at the beginning of the book, but as time goes on, she too, realizes that moving might not be so bad after all. I was 10 when our family moved and I was rather distraught about it. I was pretty convinced that I lived in the best place possible and I didn’t see how moving would make life better. After my parents told me I could bring along the poles I’d been working on for my ‘some-day’ tipi, I was a bit more enthusiastic about the move. It wasn’t long after we moved that I realized having over five times as much property meant we could do a lot more exploring, plus there was a corncrib that we were allowed to convert into our shanty (what can I say... I grew up on Laura Ingalls books). And, we even got to have a campfire on a sand pile where we were commissioned to cook breakfast every once-in-a-while. Suddenly moving hadn’t been such a horrible thing after all and I even found myself becoming loyal to our new property. As the years have passed by, I’ve been ever so thankful that we moved when we did. Moving truly did open up a new world of possibilities for my family. The land here is amazingly beautiful and if I got to go back to when I was ten and pick if I wanted to move or stay right where I was... Well, without a doubt I would choose moving.

Monday Musings \\ The Mad Scramble

And so it begins...

Confession time: I've never actually done NaNoWriMo before.

Definition time: To those of you who are not familiar with what NaNoWriMo is and are having a hard time pronouncing it, NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month. Every November, writers write a 50,000 word novel between Nov. 1st and the 30th. 

Introduction time: For my first attempt at NaNoWriMo, I've decided to begin a story I've been sitting on for a while now about treasure hunters. I am suuuuuupeeer excited--so excited, in fact, that I've decided to make it the theme of my blog post for the next month.

What I've got planned:

Monday Musings will now be lists of things that I've read/watched and listened to for research purposes, or random things that have been helping me cope with the fact that every day you have to write at least 1,667 words to get 50,000 in by the end of the month. 

Writers Wednesdays I will be sharing with you what I've learned so far about the treasure-hunting genre and what's helped me get into the swing of writing a treasure hunting story.

Photography Friday is probably what I'm most excited about. I'll be taking a break from my "Selfie Series" and doing more treasure-hunter-themed shoots. CANNOT WAIT! :D 

Anyways, just wanted to give you a heads-up for what's in store. I can't wait to get started!

Photography Friday \\ Selfie Series - Randomosity

So, for the entire month of August, my friend Andrea and I decided we weren't going to wear any make-up. 

We weren't going on some "skin-purge" or giving something up like at Lent. We just liked the idea of taking off the mask that so many people hide behind and showing ourselves as well as the rest of the world that we're comfortable and happy with who we are, with or without mascara or eyeliner or any of the other beauty "enhancing" things the world pushes on us.

I have to say it's been a really wonderful month. Empowering and humbling at the same time. I'm now more confident than ever with myself, just for the reason that I stopped spending time worrying about what other people were going to think about my face, and instead resting in the knowledge that God created beautiful in HIS sight, and the rest of the world doesn't matter.

I have acne. I have chicken-pox scars. I have braces and big, blue circles under my eyes. But I'm finding myself no longer caring about that stuff. God likes me and I like me. :) 

So, yes, in all these pictures for the last month, I haven't had much make-up on. Hope you like these new ones. They'll be the last "make-up-less" selfies, because next Friday will be September 5th!

Monday Musings \\ Treasure Hunting--HELP WANTED!

If you're a fantasy or sci-fi writer, then what I'm going to say next you're probably going to totally identify with.

Writing a book without supernatural forces--like, just fiction-- is really. really. darn. hard.

This is a HUGE SHOUT OUT FOR HELP--If you couldn't tell. Here's the skinny:
I'm writing a fiction book. Like, it's just fiction. Like... I actually have to put historical and factual stuff in it. Which means--*gasp*--research!
Anyways, it's in the treasure-hunt genre. And as I have not read much treasure-hunting books and only seen a few movies, I need suggestions.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated! Movies, books, documentaries, anything. :) So do a girl a favor and leave a comment!

Monday Musings// I'm Back! (And Book Pendants)

I'M BACK!!!!!!!!
Yes, well, so,--I'm back again! So excited to actually post again! I've got the next This Name and Moment segment in the works, as well as hopefully editing Emma's senior pictures and doing some book reviews. I read eight books last month, and several of them are just too good not to share with y'all. 
So, basically, what I've been up to is...

Shoe shopping! Finally got a new pair of converse after my last pair finally disintegrated into a puddle of threads and rubber.

Reading! Fencing, Magic, Historical, Time-Travel...

Making book pendants! Yes! You heard me--book pendants! I hand-made them from clay and put them up on Facebook to sell. I'm almost tempted to keep them all for myself...
(More on this in a later post, I promise.)

Writer's Wednesday || Apologies, Explanations and First Drafts

So... I've been rather sporatic these last few weeks.
But for good reasons.
I was finishing my book! This is a book I have been dreaming and plotting in my head since I was eight. And I finally finished the first draft! I am sooo excited! But revising said draft is keeping me extremely busy.
So, until I can get everything between my writing and my blogging organized again, I'll be taking a short break from This Name and Moment as well as blogging in general.

Monday Musings // Souls of Ink

 Reading is not speaking the words of a book to yourself in your head. 
               It's listening.

A good book doesn't use words to tell you something. In fact, it shouldn't be saying anything at all. It should be showing you a sunset. Playing the music of ocean waves. There should be rain on your upturned face. The sound of trees in the wind in your ears. Dirt beneath your fingernails.
The pages flutter around you like fallen leaves. You don't watch them spiral one by one--marking the turn of each page--but let yourself hear their whispers as they fall. Their light touch upon your cheek.
A good book isn't paper between leather.
It's a soul. 
Bound. 
Silenced until its cell is opened. And once opened, that soul becomes part of your own. 
Even if you close it again.

Writer's Wednesday || Time Travel--Help Needed!

Okay...So... I have this idea for a story installment here on my blog. You know, a short section of a story every week or two. And I really like it (it's got time travel--I can't help but like it.) But I need help.
I needs names.
The two main characters are a girl and a boy. Probably both around the age 13. Th boy has red hair and green eyes. The girl has brown hair and blue eyes. I would LOVE it if you guys commented and gave suggestions (for both first and last names). Think you can help me out?

Monday Musings \\ Liebster Award

Susanna awarded me with the Liebster Blog Award (Thanks, Susanna!) Though, I can honestly say I have no idea what the Liebster award is actually awarded to people for...I think it's German for something nice?

1. What would you do If you had a whole day to yourself?

Make ice cream, do self-photo shoots, maybe make a movie, sing at the top of my lungs, clean a little, put on bright red lipstick, wear my comfy jeans and do my hair in a really weird hairdo. :D 

2. If you have a pet, what is your favorite way to spend time with them/it?

My family owns two dogs, a cat, some chickens, four pigs and two cows. All of them live outside. None of them have had a bath in a while. And I'm not really a animal person anyways...so...I don't do much with them. :-/

3. What's your favorite candy (bar) ?

KitKat or Snickers. :D

4. Would you rather have legs as long as your fingers, or fingers as long as your legs?

(Okay, first of all, can I just say that that is one of the coolest questions anyone has ever asked me? High-five, Susanna!)  Now, the question: Definitely fingers as long as my legs, that way I can still run. :D

5. What is your favorite movie?

Wow. Hard one....I can't really pick, so I'll say my favorite TV series: BBC's Merlin

6. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

England, Italy, and New Zealand.

7. What is your favorite book?

Harry Potter 7, Percy Jackson 1, or Narnia 1. 'Fraid I can't narrow it down anymore. :)

8. What are you saving up for right now?

I'm not usually the "always buying clothes" type, but I fell in love with a certain leather jacket at Khol's and am hoping to save up enough for it, also N.D.Wilson's new book The Empire of Bones. Super-psyched!

9. Who is your favorite music artist?

I really like Of Monsters and Men and Andrew Peterson.

10. If you could meet anyone in real life, who would you meet?

Pippin from Lord of The Rings. :D <3
